On February 2, 2025, the renowned architect, architectural historian, and educator Bekrimzhan Abakovich Glaudinov passed away. His contribution to the development of national architectural science and education is immeasurable.
A Doctor of Architecture, professor, and leading specialist in the history and theory of architecture in Kazakhstan, he was a full member (academician) of the Academy of Architecture of Eastern Countries, an honorary academician of the KazGor Design Academy, an honorary architect of Kazakhstan, a distinguished and honorary educator of the Republic of Kazakhstan (twice awarded), and a laureate of the Unified Construction Award “Crystal Pyramid” of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
He became Kazakhstan’s first Doctor of Architecture, dedicating his life to the study of architectural history and theory. After graduating from the Architecture Department of the Central Asian (now Tashkent) Polytechnic Institute in 1965, he defended his candidate dissertation at the Moscow Architectural Institute in 1970. Since 1971, he had been engaged in teaching, and in 1999, he defended his doctoral dissertation.
For 20 years (1978–1988), Bekrimzhan Abakovich headed the Department of “Theory and History of Architecture.” He also served as Dean of the Faculty of Architecture at KazPTI and later at KazGASA (1974–1981, 1988–2003). Under his leadership and with his direct participation, numerous doctoral and candidate dissertations were defended, and 38 cohorts of architects—more than 4,500 professionals—were trained.
As the author of fundamental works on the history of architecture in Kazakhstan and over 200 scientific and methodological articles, he made an invaluable contribution to the development of national architectural science, playing a key role in shaping the Kazakhstani school of architectural history.
The faculty and staff of the International educational corporation (KazGASA) extend their deepest condolences to the family, friends, colleagues, and students of Bekrimzhan Abakovich.
His work, knowledge, and dedication to his profession will forever remain in the memory of the architectural community.
