Patrik Schumacher Delivered a Guest Lecture at the IEC

On February 21, 2024, the International educational corporation (KazGASA) welcomed Patrik Schumacher, the principal and lead architect of Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) and one of the foremost innovators in contemporary architecture. During his visit, the renowned architect toured the newly renovated KazGASA campus, including the digital museum and specialized laboratories.

Patrik Schumacher is the founder of parametricism, an architectural movement based on digital technologies and algorithmic design. Under his leadership, ZHA has completed iconic projects such as the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku, the London Aquatics Centre, the Beijing Daxing International Airport, and many others.

A key part of his visit was a guest lecture attended by Kazakhstani architects, designers, IEC (KazGASA) partners, faculty members, and students. This event marked Schumacher’s first lecture in Kazakhstan, offering a unique opportunity to explore cutting-edge architectural ideas on a global scale.

During the lecture, he discussed key trends in 21st-century architecture, innovative design methods, and the application of artificial intelligence in urban planning. Participants had the chance to explore ZHA case studies, engage in discussions on the digital transformation of architecture, and ask questions to one of the world’s leading architects.

Following the lecture, a press conference was held, where Patrik Schumacher answered questions from journalists. The discussion covered Almaty’s environmental challenges, urban development prospects, and architectural trends. He shared his professional insights, provided recommendations for architectural projects in Kazakhstan, and highlighted the Alatau City project. Schumacher noted the high potential of the region and expressed interest in potential future collaborations between Zaha Hadid Architects and Kazakhstan.
