Elective Course Catalog

Elective Courses

Elective courses are profile-specific disciplines that enhance the individualization of specialized education. The Elective Course Catalog is a systematically organized, annotated list of all courses included in the elective component.
When compiling the catalog, it is essential to consider scientific advancements, industry trends, market demands, and the needs of the university’s educational service consumers.

Elective course catalogs for academic programs must be developed in accordance with the following requirements:

Elective courses must align with the need for students to acquire professional competencies as defined by state educational standards (SCES).

The sequence of elective courses must follow the academic logic of interrelation and progression, specifying prerequisites and post-requisites.

Elective courses must be categorized according to the cycles of the standard academic curriculum, with a brief description and an indication of credit hours.

Elective courses should be structured into natural learning pathways, indicating prerequisite courses whose mastery is essential for understanding subsequent material.

The catalog must ensure that students have the opportunity to make an alternative selection of elective courses.

Structure of Elective Course Catalogs (ECC)

Elective Course Catalogs (ECC) must include the following information: the name of the university, the name and code of the specialty or educational program (EP), the academic year for which the ECC is developed, as well as the approval and endorsement of the ECC by the university’s methodological council, with an indication of the protocol number and approval date.

The ECC table contains the following details: elective course blocks categorized by cycles of General Education Courses (GEC), Basic Courses (BC), and Specialized Courses (SC). For master’s and doctoral programs, only the BC and SC cycles are included.

The table further specifies the course name, prerequisites (courses required before taking this one), post-requisites (courses taken after this one), workload in credits, a brief description of the main topics, course objectives, and expected learning outcomes.
