On April 15, 2025, the International educational corporation (KazGASA), with the support of the Urban Studies Laboratory of the Faculty of Architecture, hosted the panel session “Inclusive City: Solutions and Opportunities.”
The event was organized as part of the Laboratory’s research activities on urban inclusivity and brought together leading experts in architecture, urbanism, social policy, and inclusive design.
Speakers shared their experiences and initiatives in inclusive development, including Zhannar Gabudlina, Deputy Chair of the Board of the Almaty City Development Center; Nurzhan Tamen, Head of Department at “Almatygenplan Research Institute” LLP; Almat Serikov, Director of Construction at Qazaq Stroy Astana; Kasiet Omarova, Advisor to the Akim of Almaty on Inclusion Issues; and Olga Wright, architect, co-founder of the Right Bureau, and Associate Professor at IEC.
The session was moderated by Zhayna Tolegen, PhD, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Architecture, IEC.
The session concluded with an open discussion involving representatives from academia, students, government agencies, and NGOs, where the challenges and prospects of implementing inclusive practices in the Kazakhstani context were discussed.
The panel session marked an important step toward building a sustainable and people-centered urban environment in Almaty and Kazakhstan as a whole.
