From August 7 to 17, 2024, professors from the Faculty of Architecture of the International Educational Corporation, members of the Union of Architects of the Republic of Kazakhstan, visited the cities of Western Kazakhstan — Aktau and Atyrau. The trip was conducted as part of the Grant Project AP19680138 “Regional Identity as a Factor for the Sustainable Development of Architecture in Independent Kazakhstan in the Context of Globalization.” The delegation included Elvira Temirgalievna Danibekova, PhD, Associate Professor and Project Research Supervisor, and Ainagul Kairbaevna Tuyakaeva, Candidate of Architecture, Associate Professor.
In Aktau, they held meetings with representatives from the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning, discussing the city’s current issues. In Atyrau, negotiations were held with leaders of the Urban Land Relations, Architecture, and Urban Planning Department, as well as with the former Chief Architect of the city. The focus was on the characteristics of urban architecture and its landmarks.
During the trip, the professors gathered materials, conducted surveys, and photo-documentation of unique objects, including underground and rock-cut mosques, necropolises, and the State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve “Saraychik.” They also discussed potential collaboration with the “UNESCO Preservation of Cultural Heritage” and “Fundamentals of Architectural Design” departments of the Faculty of Architecture of the International Educational Corporation.
