In Memory of Mayan Rakhimzhanovna Izbasar

On February 2, 2025, Mayan Rakhimzhanovna Izbasar, one of Kazakhstan’s first female architects, passed away. She dedicated her life to urban planning, teaching, and the development of architectural education.

After graduating from the Leningrad Institute of Civil Engineering in 1959, she began her professional career at the Kazgorstroyproekt State Urban Planning Institute and worked on the construction of KarGRES. In 1961, she entered the postgraduate program at the Moscow Institute of Civil Engineering named after V.V. Kuibyshev, which she completed in 1965. From that point on, she devoted her career to teaching.

From 1980 to 1996, Mayan Rakhimzhanovna worked as a senior lecturer in the “Urban Planning” department at AASI–KazGASA. Since 1996, she had held the position of associate professor in the same department. In 2004, she was awarded the title of Honorary Professor of KazGASA.

Throughout her career, she made a tremendous contribution to the development of Kazakhstan’s architectural science and education. As the author of over 100 scientific and methodological publications in Russian and Kazakh, she actively engaged in research and mentored new generations of architects. Under her guidance and mentorship, many honored and distinguished architects of Kazakhstan emerged, who today lead the country’s foremost architectural and urban planning institutions.

Mayan Rakhimzhanovna was a member of the Union of Architects of Kazakhstan, the Union of Urban Planners of Kazakhstan, and an honorary architect of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In 2013, she was awarded the T.K. Basenov Medal for her outstanding contribution to architectural education.

For many years, she taught key urban planning disciplines, supervised diploma projects, and inspired students with her dedication and example. Her knowledge, mentorship, and devotion to her profession left a lasting impact on her students.

In Memory of Bekrimzhan Abakovich Glaudinov

On February 2, 2025, the renowned architect, architectural historian, and educator Bekrimzhan Abakovich Glaudinov passed away. His contribution to the development of national architectural science and education is immeasurable.

A Doctor of Architecture, professor, and leading specialist in the history and theory of architecture in Kazakhstan, he was a full member (academician) of the Academy of Architecture of Eastern Countries, an honorary academician of the KazGor Design Academy, an honorary architect of Kazakhstan, a distinguished and honorary educator of the Republic of Kazakhstan (twice awarded), and a laureate of the Unified Construction Award “Crystal Pyramid” of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

He became Kazakhstan’s first Doctor of Architecture, dedicating his life to the study of architectural history and theory. After graduating from the Architecture Department of the Central Asian (now Tashkent) Polytechnic Institute in 1965, he defended his candidate dissertation at the Moscow Architectural Institute in 1970. Since 1971, he had been engaged in teaching, and in 1999, he defended his doctoral dissertation.

For 20 years (1978–1988), Bekrimzhan Abakovich headed the Department of “Theory and History of Architecture.” He also served as Dean of the Faculty of Architecture at KazPTI and later at KazGASA (1974–1981, 1988–2003). Under his leadership and with his direct participation, numerous doctoral and candidate dissertations were defended, and 38 cohorts of architects—more than 4,500 professionals—were trained.

As the author of fundamental works on the history of architecture in Kazakhstan and over 200 scientific and methodological articles, he made an invaluable contribution to the development of national architectural science, playing a key role in shaping the Kazakhstani school of architectural history.

Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek Visits the International Educational Corporation

On January 31, 2025, the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Sayasat Nurbek, visited the International educational corporation (KazGASA).

During the visit, Sayasat Nurbek was introduced to the strategic development of the IEC (KazGASA), including the large-scale Academic City project—an innovative educational complex planned to be built on the corporation’s premises. This project will become a unique ecosystem integrating dormitories, co-living and co-working spaces, a congress center, and other facilities designed to foster an advanced educational and scientific environment.

The Minister also toured the IEC (KazGASA) infrastructure, including the new academic building and the scientific laboratory complex equipped with modern research facilities. Additionally, he visited the newly established UNESCO Chair for the Preservation of Historical and Cultural Heritage, as well as a video recording studio where online courses and digital educational content are produced.

Sayasat Nurbek paid special attention to the development of educational programs in the field of creative industries and micro-qualifications for vocational professions. He highlighted the significant progress made by the IEC (KazGASA) in these areas and emphasized the importance of market-oriented education that provides students not only with fundamental knowledge but also with practical skills in high-demand industries.

At the end of the visit, the Minister addressed the faculty and students of the IEC (KazGASA). He noted that one of the key priorities is the training of specialists in artificial intelligence, as digital transformation requires professionals capable of working with cutting-edge technologies. According to him, the development of AI technologies in education and science will not only enhance the quality of student training but also create new opportunities for scientific research and innovative advancements.

Opening of the Student Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan at the IEC

On January 21, 2024, a significant event took place at the International educational corporation (KazGASA): the opening of the first-ever Student Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan in the country. The IEC (KazGASA) became the first university in the Republic of Kazakhstan to establish an official partnership with the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan. This new student organization has become a unique platform for unity, cultural exchange, and realizing bright opportunities.

The event began with a welcome speech by the rector of the International educational corporation, Margarita Bulatovna Imandosova. Rustam Kairyev, a member of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan, emphasized the importance of creating such a platform for students in his speech. Omar Mohammedsaruar, Deputy Chair of the “Assembly Zhastary” branch in Almaty, spoke about the organization’s activities and its contribution to the development of youth initiatives.

The highlight of the event was the election of the Chairperson of the Student Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan. This honorable position was taken by Serik Dias, the Chair of the Student Government at the IEC (KazGASA).

The opening of the Student Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan at the IEC marks a new stage in the development of interethnic cooperation and student self-governance, offering students new horizons for personal and professional growth.

Visit of IEC Professors to the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction

From December 5 to 7, 2024, a group of professors from the Faculty of Architecture at IEC (KazGASA) visited the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction (AzUAC) in Baku.

AzUAC is the only school in the post-Soviet space accredited by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), which is the highest recognition of achievements in architectural education.

During the two-day visit, the IEC delegation – Dr. Arch. Abdrasilova G.S., Ph.D. in Arch. Iskhodzhanova G.R., and Dr. Arch. Glaudinova M.B. – held working meetings with the leadership of AzUAC, including vice-rectors, deans, and department heads. They reviewed academic documents, the requirements for professional disciplines, and the organization of the educational process.

The IEC professors expressed special gratitude to AzUAC Rector Gulchohra Mamedova, Dean Zahida Mamedova, and Professor Shahla Kahramanova for their warm welcome and fruitful collaboration.

This visit marked an important milestone in the longstanding partnership between the two leading architectural institutions of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. It is anticipated that the collaboration between AzUAC and IEC (KazGASA) will continue to develop in various directions.

  • Grades must be no lower than A-;
  • No academic debts;

IEC Launches Environmental Initiative in Collaboration with Freedom Holding Corp. and Freedom Shapagat Foundation

We are pleased to announce the launch of an important environmental initiative implemented by IEC in partnership with Freedom Holding Corp. and the Freedom Shapagat Foundation. An innovative recycling machine for collecting plastic bottles and aluminum cans has been installed within the corporation’s premises.

This initiative is part of the national environmental campaign “Taza Qazaqstan,” aimed at reducing environmental pollution and promoting the culture of waste separation.

Baglana Musina, Chief Sustainability Officer of Freedom Holding Corp., highlighted that the initiative has led to the production of next-generation recycling machines using artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies. These machines will soon be mass-produced, significantly contributing to the solution of urban waste management issues.

Such projects emphasize the importance of collaborative efforts in the field of environmental and sustainable development. The recycling machine at IEC will not only help improve the environmental situation but also play a crucial role in fostering a culture of environmental responsibility among students and staff of the academy.

Shynar Malikovna Kultaeva Received the “Best Researcher” Award

On December 27, 2024, the winners of the Republican Competition for the “Best Researcher” award of 2024 were announced. The competition commission awarded the prize to 50 outstanding scientists who have made significant contributions to the development of national science.

We are proud to announce that among the winners is Associate Professor of FCTIM and Chief Researcher of IEC, Shynar Malikovna Kultaeva. This achievement is a well-deserved recognition of her high-level professional work and significant accomplishments in scientific research.

The award was established under the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On Science and Technological Policy” and aims to support scientists and promote the development of science and technology. A total of 308 applications were submitted in seven fields, including natural, social, humanitarian, and military sciences, as well as medicine, agriculture, and technology. The selection process ensured transparency through an automated evaluation system and the involvement of expert groups. The winners, including Shynar Malikovna, demonstrate the high standards of Kazakhstani science.

A Unique Exhibition of Architectural Heritage Monuments

The Faculty of Architecture at the International educational corporation (KazGASA) now hosts a new exhibition dedicated to the monuments of Kazakhstan’s vernacular architecture. This visual display was created to promote the country’s rich cultural heritage and draw the attention of a wide audience, including professionals, to these unique monuments.

A special feature of the exhibition is the materials collected during decades of research by Doctor of Architecture Eskander Muslimovich Baitenov. Over the past 40 years, he has organized numerous expeditions that led to the discovery, study, and introduction into scientific discourse of hundreds of previously unknown monuments of Kazakhstan’s vernacular architecture, ranging from the early Middle Ages (ancient Turkic period) to the early 20th century.

This exhibition stand is the result of years of dedicated work by the corporation’s professors and researchers, committed to preserving and passing on the unique heritage of Kazakh architecture to future generations.
