IEC opens new 400-bed student dormitory

On August 24, the grand opening of the new student dormitory of the International Educational Corporation, designed for 400 people, took place in Almaty.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek, Deputy Akim of Almaty Azamat Kaldybekov, Director of the representative office of Financial Center JSC Ulan Utebayev, Head of the Project Office Damir Kutumov and Rector of the IEC Margarita Bulatovna Imandosova.
The building is a reconstructed facility created to provide students with comfortable conditions for living, studying and active recreation.
The dormitory has two-, four- and six-bed rooms. Each floor has kitchens, showers, laundries, and storage rooms for seasonal items. A fitness room, a mock-up room and a study room are equipped for students. The dormitory is under 24-hour security, and CCTV cameras are installed on the territory. The IEC has taken an important step in supporting students by creating favorable conditions for their learning and personal growth.

SUSTEX Hackathon 2024 Held at the IEC

On August 19-21, the SUSTEX Hackathon 2024, organized with the support of Most BI and the Teplo Charitable Foundation, was successfully held at the International Educational Corporation on the basis of KAZGASA. The event brought together teams that offered innovative ideas and solutions in the field of textile waste recycling.

During the hackathon, participants listened to a series of lectures and master classes from leading industry experts, exchanged experiences with like-minded people and presented their projects to an independent jury and event partners. The total prize fund amounted to 500,000 tenge, and the winners also received vouchers for a trip to Turkey.

             Hackathon results:

– 1st place: Reveco team – Recycling of wearable clothes into a new product.

– 2nd place: the Eco Seat team – Ecological seats made of rice husks and textile emissions.

– 3rd place: The “EcoWise” team is an application with a system for calculating the carbon footprint of textile products from the production of raw materials to decomposition in landfills and/or recycling.

– Audience Award: The MindWorks team – The re.omir project is a web application for the sale, exchange and recycling of clothing aimed at reducing textile waste and reasonable consumption.

The IEC was visited by the famous Singaporean entrepreneur Serg Bell

On August 16, the International Education Corporation hosted a visit by famous Singaporean entrepreneur and venture investor Serge Bell, founder of such companies as Acronis, Parallels and Acumatica. As a specialist in technology, science and education, Serge Bell highly appreciated the IEC’s contribution to domestic education, emphasizing that the KazGASA brand is widely recognized in the international arena.

As part of the visit, the guest was shown the IEC infrastructure, including modern laboratories and a new academic building. Particular attention was paid to the advanced educational methods and approaches that are used at KazGASA to train world-class specialists.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to continue joint collaboration, expand international interactions and bilateral cooperation, which will open up new opportunities for IEC students and teachers in the global educational space.

Faculty of Architecture Professors of the IEC Undertake Research Trip to Western Kazakhstan Cities

From August 7 to 17, 2024, professors from the Faculty of Architecture of the International Educational Corporation, members of the Union of Architects of the Republic of Kazakhstan, visited the cities of Western Kazakhstan — Aktau and Atyrau. The trip was conducted as part of the Grant Project AP19680138 “Regional Identity as a Factor for the Sustainable Development of Architecture in Independent Kazakhstan in the Context of Globalization.” The delegation included Elvira Temirgalievna Danibekova, PhD, Associate Professor and Project Research Supervisor, and Ainagul Kairbaevna Tuyakaeva, Candidate of Architecture, Associate Professor.

 

In Aktau, they held meetings with representatives from the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning, discussing the city’s current issues. In Atyrau, negotiations were held with leaders of the Urban Land Relations, Architecture, and Urban Planning Department, as well as with the former Chief Architect of the city. The focus was on the characteristics of urban architecture and its landmarks.

 

During the trip, the professors gathered materials, conducted surveys, and photo-documentation of unique objects, including underground and rock-cut mosques, necropolises, and the State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve “Saraychik.” They also discussed potential collaboration with the “UNESCO Preservation of Cultural Heritage” and “Fundamentals of Architectural Design” departments of the Faculty of Architecture of the International Educational Corporation.



Graduates celebrated their 40th anniversary

On August 10, the International Educational Corporation hosted a solemn meeting of graduates of the AIACE (Alma-Ata Institute of Architecture and Civil Engineering), dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the graduation of the AC-79 course, who studied at the Faculty of Architecture from 1979 to 1984. The guests were presented with an updated building and an excursion was conducted, including specialized laboratories and new classrooms. 

 

The meeting allowed the graduates to share their memories of their student years and discuss current professional challenges. The warm atmosphere of the meeting emphasized the importance of such events for strengthening professional and personal ties between graduates and maintaining contact with their alma mater.

The IEC held a meeting with Professor Blanche Cameron, a lecturer at The Bartlett School of Architecture at UCL

 

On August 6, 2024, the International Educational Corporation held a meeting with Professor Blanche Cameron, a lecturer at The Bartlett School of Architecture at University College London. 

 

During the visit, Professor Cameron got acquainted with the IEC development strategy aimed at sustainable and digital transformation, and shared her extensive experience in the field of environmental design and adaptation to climate change. After getting acquainted with the specialized laboratories and the museum, Professor Cameron highlighted the participation and contribution of the IEC in the field of green economy and intellectual development of the Republic of Kazakhstan. 

 

This visit was an important step in the exchange of experience in the field of sustainable development and environmental design.



A memorandum of cooperation between the IEC and a private Foundation «Teplo Foundation» has been signed

On July 31, 2024, the International Educational Corporation and the Private Foundation “Teplo Foundation” signed a memorandum of understanding and cooperation. Both sides expressed interest in developing the field of eco-friendly textiles, fashion and design, as well as in supporting gifted youth and education. The Faculty of Design will play an important role in this collaboration.

The main areas of cooperation include ensuring sustainable development and the introduction of textile recycling methods, promoting the development of student entrepreneurship, as well as the implementation of joint projects aimed at the development of technological entrepreneurship and information technology in Kazakhstan.

Within the framework of the cooperation, a number of events are planned, including creative workshops and guest lectures aimed at developing innovations in the fashion and textile industry.

KazGASA Sports Club Fighter Becomes Asian Champion

From July 26 to 31, the city of Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan, is hosting the Asian Cup in Universal Combat. More than 150 athletes from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan are taking part in the competition, including KazGASA Sports Club fighter Dauren Dakenov.
We are especially proud to announce the achievement of our fighter Dauren Dakenov. He took part in the weight category up to 70 kg, where up to 20 participants were declared, and won the champion title in his weight category.
We congratulate Dauren on this significant achievement and wish him further victories in the international arena.

For the first time, an IEC student participates in a session of the World Heritage Committee in India

From 21 to 31 July 2024, the 46th session of the World Heritage Committee is being held in New Delhi, India, where a fourth-year student of the Faculty of Architecture of the International Educational Corporation, Bertay Medet, is participating. As part of the development of the UNESCO Department of “Preservation of Historical and Cultural Heritage” at the Faculty of Architecture, as well as to gain experience in the international expert environment and stimulate the interest of young specialists in this field, Bertay Medet, on the initiative of the corporation, was included in the delegation from the Republic of Kazakhstan.

This prestigious event brings together delegates from all over the world to discuss and work together to preserve common cultural, natural and mixed heritage. The Congress is an important event on the path to strengthening global cooperation to protect World Heritage sites. This event opens up new prospects for cooperation, exchange of experience in the field of preserving cultural heritage, promotes the development of international dialogue and partnership, and strengthens the interest of future specialists, who will be trained for the first time in the republic within the walls of the IEC.

The bill “On Science and Technology Policy” was signed

On July 1, 2024, the Head of State of the Republic of Kazakhstan signed an important bill “On Science and Technology Policy”. The purpose of the draft Law is the development of science and the implementation of technological policy to implement the results of scientific achievements to ensure the competitiveness of the country, and intersectoral coordination of scientific, scientific, technical and innovative activities. This law is aimed at creating favorable conditions for the development of science and the successful commercialization of scientific achievements. It regulates public relations in the field of science, scientific and technical activities and commercialization of its results, as well as establishes the basic principles and mechanisms for the development of the national scientific system of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

 

The new law is designed to stimulate innovative activity, provide support for scientific research and technological developments, as well as promote their implementation in various spheres of the economy and public life. This is an important step in strengthening the country’s scientific potential and its readiness to meet the challenges of global technological development.

 

This event marks that the law supports Kazakhstan’s strategic course towards innovative development and becoming a leading player in the field of science and technology in Central Asia.
